We closed 2014 by asking about ways programs could provide the professional skills development that lead to multiple career pathways for U.S. STEM graduate students. In the New Year, what is one thing that you plan to do to prepare yourself, or to help prepare trainees in your program, for diverse career paths?

  1. I will be presenting at a workshop at the AAAS meeting in San Jose: “Expanding Your Professional Marketability through Science Outreach” (https://aaas.confex.com/aaas/2015/webprogram/Session10103.html). I will be providing a student perspective on growing science outreach opportunities in my graduate school, collaborating on these efforts with neighboring institutions, and describing how this work has helped me gained leadership and communication skills that I hope will serve me well as I continue to pursue a career in academic science.
